Jewellery care
How to maintain gold products so that they last a long time and always look like new?
Gold is a beautiful, but soft precious metal that requires gentle use. You should only polish gold once or twice a year. Polishing gold too much can cause damage. But, with special care and effort, you can easily clean your gold jewellery at home and have your gold to shine like new. We also recommend cleaning your earrings regularly as they come into contact with your skin the most.
Simple steps to clean gold jewellery
Soak the gold in water, baking soda, and dish soap. Fill a bowl with water. Add a small amount of baking soda and a mild dish soap. Submerge the gold into the mixture. Allow it to soak for a few minutes.
Scrub the gold with a soft-bristled toothbrush. A new, baby-sized soft-bristle toothbrush is ideal to use. Gently scrub the gold with the toothbrush. You do not need to apply that much pressure while scrubbing. Make sure that you get into the crevices of the gold if there are any.
Rinse off the gold. Once you have used the toothbrush, run the gold under warm water. Make sure that you rinse off all of the baking soda mixture. Inspect the gold to see if you are happy with the outcome.
Even if your jewellery doesn’t need to be cleaned, buffing it occasionally is a good way to maintain it. Use a soft chamois cloth and gently rub the surface of the piece. It can help restore the shine of the jewellery right away, without further cleaning.
DAILY WEARING TIPS
Avoid contact with chemicals
Make sure that the only once you're done applying any makeup, perfume, hairspray, and lotions you wear gold jewellery . You most definitely do not want your jewellery to have prolonged exposure to any kind of chemicals, which may lead to damaging the integrity of the metal. One of gold’s worst enemy is chlorine so make sure to take your jewellery off before getting into a hot tub, swimming pool or spa. Remove your gold jewellery before showering, bathing, or cleaning. The exposure to soap and chemicals can dull the gold, necessitating more frequent cleanings. It can also scratch or break down the gold, which is a soft metal and easily damaged. Cover or remove while cleaning: household cleaners with acids or abrasives will damage your jewellery finish. Be sure to use rubber gloves while cleaning or remove your jewellery altogether.
Remove your gold jewellery before any high-contact sports
Be mindful of your gold rings, watches, and bracelets while you wear them and remove before them while playing any high-contact sports. Contact sports pose a threat of scratches and dents to the pieces given the fact that gold is a soft metal.
Safely store your jewellery
Store your gold jewellery separately. It’s important to make sure your pieces of gold jewellery don’t touch any other jewellery when they’re being stored. Because gold is a soft metal, it can easily scratch or bend out of shape if it comes into contact with other pieces of jewellery. If you don’t have enough space to store each piece separately, try wrapping each piece in a soft cloth. Hang up gold chains if possible. This prevents them from getting tangled; trying to untangle gold chains can easily break them.
